1992: As there was no place of worship for Muslims in Plateau, the business district of Abidjan, the economic and former political capital of Côte d'Ivoire, the Muslim community obtained from authorities the right to pray at the uncovered car park of the Town Hall, where worshippers were exposed to bad weather.
1993: Our late President of the Republic Félix HOUPHOUET BOIGNY (Peace be upon him) granted a site to the Muslim community for the construction of a mosque.
1994: The foundation stone ceremony of the Mosque of Plateau took place.
1996: The construction work of the Mosque of Plateau started thanks to donations from our Government and diverse donors, prestigious, known or anonymous.
2002: Work stopped due to shortage of funds.
2007: Creation of The Fundraising and Supervising Committee for the Work Completion of the Mosque of Plateau, chaired by Mr Feh KESSE.
The President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr Laurent GBAGBO made a donation of 500 million francs CFA (US $1 million) to the Committee. The donation helped fit up the esplanade, the prayer hall and the mezzanine for women, and erect the fence.
After that work, the President of the Republic, at the request of the Muslim community, authorized celebration of worship inside the Mosque.
However, significant work remains to be done to complete this religious building dedicated to the glory of Allah, The Most High. Thanks to its location, capacity and multipurpose functions, this Mosque, which is actually an Islamic complex, once completed, will greatly contribute to the promotion and spread of Islam in Côte d'Ivoire and in the subregion of West Africa
