In March 1996, started the building project of the Mosque of Plateau.
Over the course of work, the minaret and the gold blue dome of this beautiful religious building eventually emerged in the landscape of Plateau, the business district of Abidjan, where the Presidential Palace and the Town Hall also stand.
Unfortunately, as it is often the case with all the great works of faith, the construction of this impressive building dedicated to the Almighty, which began with enthusiasm, went through many interruptions and stopped in December 1999, due to lack of funds.
Till that date, the work achieved amounted to 8.16 billion francs CFA (US $16.32 million) for an initial total cost of about 10 billion francs CFA (US $20 million), updated, in June 2008, to 13.47 billion francs CFA (US $26.94 million).
In 2007, hope came back for the Muslim community of Côte d’Ivoire, thanks to the Head of State’s generosity, His Excellency Mr Laurent GBAGBO.
Indeed, The President of the Republic achieved, at the beginning of the second semester of the year 2007, two major actions in favour of the completion of the Mosque:
- he offered the amount of 500 million francs CFA (US $1 million) for the resumption of the work,
- he authorized worship celebration on the esplanade of the Mosque, thus putting an end to some of the numerous annoyances caused to worshippers who, during many years, prayed in the open air at the car park of the Town Hall of Abidjan.
Thanks to the Head of State’s donation and to the amount of 142 million francs CFA (US $284,000) available at that date on the bank account of the Mosque opened at the BICICI Head Office, work resumed and enabled to fit up the esplanade and the prayer hall and to erect the fence.
To bring this important project to completion, a Fundraising and Supervising Committee for the Completion of the Mosque of Plateau has been set up.
The mission of the committee I have the honour to chair is to:
- raise the funds necessary for completion,
- incur expenses, and,
- supervise the execution of work.
At the technical level, the prime contractor is still the National Bureau of Technical Studies and Development (better known as BNETD in French), which is in charge of, among others, controlling the quality of work with all the expertise required for that matter.
This website, intended for generous donors we hope to be numerous, takes stock of the work already achieved and presents the financial needs which amount to 4.765 billion francs CFA (US $9.53 million).
Foundations, state institutions, religious associations, members of the Ummah, men and women of goodwill, your contributions are welcome to offer the Muslim community of Côte d’Ivoire a work worthy of its faith and devotion to God.
May Allah The Merciful bless you for your good deeds!
